2024 Dutch Oven Campout – Mountain View, AR

  • by

The 20th annual Dutch Oven Cook-off was held at a different RV park from the last several years, but still in Mountain View. It was a very nice park with easy access and near to anything needed. I would highly recommend it anytime.   Shawna and her husband, Greg Board, the owners of Mountain View RV Park, went above and beyond in making our campout a success.  They were there every day to see if we needed anything at all.  There was another camping (RV) group there also. With our sites on either side, we had a Rec. Room, with full kitchen and tables, at our disposal, with patios on two sided that looked over a beautiful green valley, as did most of our sites.

Several fixed breakfast there and many sat on the patio and kicked tires most every night. And there were a couple times we really needed the patios.  We had a good rain just as the cooks were starting the charcoal on Saturday.  However, it didn’t last long and the charcoal managed to heat up.   Last year, someone had told Mike Miller the only way to improve his chicken and dumplings was to make more.  So, Mike came prepared – with a #14 Dutch oven!  There was enough chicken and dumplings to feed the entire campground. And everyone else brought lots of food if they weren’t cooking.  So, Brenda went around and invited the other group to our dinner. And they came!  And they brought a ton of food!  They even brought carryout containers for us to use.   Mike won 1st place again with his dumplings and Sharon won 1st place with her dessert.  Prizes were Dutch oven accessories.

There were 23 campers from 10 states.  Attending were: from Arkansas-Charlie Mosteller,    Lowell Altom, hosts Johnboy and Brenda Dixon, and Dawn Maybry and son Lucas;  From Colorado-J.C. Sanders; from Illinois-Marve & Karen Murphy, from Indiana-Dave & Sharon Morgan; from Kentucky-Dennis Ivers; from Missouri-Ed Leonard; from North Carolina-Charles Hoyle, Rick Ogborn, and Frank Winkler; from Ohio-Tom Heyl and Mike Miller; from Tennessee-Kenny Doster, George Lord and Clayton Sandmel, and from Texas Gary Miller and Leroy Green.
