DESCRIPTION:Host: Jim Poitra 308-207-5519 \nLocation:  Elk Mountain Campground\, Loop B\, Wind Cave National Park\, 26611 US Hwy 385\, Hot Springs\, SD 57747 \nPark General Information:  605-745-4600 \nCoordinates: N43.55677 W103.47799 (Visitor Center at Wind Cave) \nDirections:   Just 12 miles north of Hot Springs on Highway 385.  Follow signs to the Wind Cave Visitor Center about 2 miles off Hwy 385.  Elk Mountain Campground entrance is ½ mile north of Visitor Center. \nCamp Location:  Elk Mountain Campground\, IBMC will be camping in Loop B. Suggested sites in Loop B are the following numbers:  15\, 16\, 17(Handicapped)\, 18-25. These sites will accommodate tents\, tent trailers and RVs.  Sites can be shared.  Use Recreation.gov website to make your reservation.  Fees: $24 per night ($12 for Vintage). \nCampground:  Usual table\, fire ring\, nearby water and flush toilets. No electric service. Cell phone service is marginal.  Firewood: check with camp ranger. \nServices/Conveniences: Hot Springs\, (14 miles) and Custer\, (20 miles). Showers available at South Dakota Outdoor Shop in Custer or the KOA south of Hot Springs. \nAttractions:  Wind Cave (elevator in service now\, make reservations 3 days in advance) and other caves\, buffalo\, Mt. Rushmore and Crazy Horse monument sculptures\, Sturgis their last weekend\, Mammoth Site\, Plunge Pool\, Scenic train rides and plenty of twisty roads. \nWhat to Bring:  Elevation is over 4\,000 feet with pleasant days\, cool evenings. Summer thunderstorms possible!

For those who like camping in four walls\, there are plenty of hotels available in Flagstaff. \nDirections: From I-40 exit 201 in Flagstaff\, head north on US-89 north and follow for 12 miles. After milepost 430\, turn right on the Sunset Crater Volcano–Wupatki Loop Road\, (look for the sign to the Sunset Crater National Monument). This weekend will be the peak of the Perseids Meteor Shower and with the dark skies\, the night show should be amazing. There are several easy walking trails in the National Monument\, and the Grand Canyon National Park South Rim (east entrance) is approximately 70 miles away. \nWhat to Bring: Hosts will provide chilidogs on Friday night and bring wood for a group fire pit. Individual fires are not allowed. There is drinking water in the campground\, otherwise\, bring whatever you need for a great weekend getaway\, and bring side dishes for Friday if you can. \nElevation and Weather Notes: The campground sits at 7\,000 feet so expect cool nights and pleasant days.
