SUMMARY:Ward Mountain Campout
DESCRIPTION:Location: Ward Mountain Campground\, Ely\, NV 89301\n\n\nComments: Heading to high country for a weekend getaway in the mountains outside of Ely\, NV. Sights to see include a ride on the Northern Nevada Railway\, a ride to Great Basin National Park and the road to Wheeler Peak which is simply amazing. The Perseid Meteor Shower should be in full effect and with the dark skies of the Great Basin\, the show should be spectacular. \nWe have reservations in Spot 30 in Loop B\, if you’d like to try to get close. Price is $12 per night\, discounted to $6 with a National Access Pass. \nTo make reservations\, go to https://www.recreation.gov/camping/campgrounds/234207 \nThere are also plenty of hotels available in Ely\, which is only six miles from the campground.  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDirections: From Ely\, travel west on US-6 for 10 miles. Turn left just before Murray Summit\, at the sign for the recreation area.\n\nFrom Las Vegas\, travel north on Highway 93 for about 86 miles\, to the junction with State Route 318.  Make sure to fill up fuel in Ash Springs.  Follow State Route 318 north for 124 miles to US-6 and head east towards Ely.  Turn right at the sign for the recreation area.\n\nAttractions: Local attractions include the towns of Ely with its historic train rides\, museum and Great Basin National Park. The historic town of Eureka is a nice day ride \, as is riding to Middlegate Station on US-50\, which is the Loneliest Road in America.\n\nGreat Basin National Park: The road to Wheeler Peak in the park is simply amazing\, with Wheeler Peak sitting at 13\,605 feet making it the second-highest peak in Nevada\, just behind Boundary Peak (which was not officially listed in Nevada by the USGS until 1980).\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nLatitude\n39° 12′ 44.8301″ N \n\n\nLongitude\n114° 58′ 3.3200″ W \n\n\n\n\n\n\nTo make reservations\, go to https://www.recreation.gov/camping/campgrounds/234207

DESCRIPTION:Host: Carla Sartwell 928-499-9066 (texting ok) azsidecarla@gmail.com \nLocation:  Elk Mountain Campground\, Loop B\, Wind Cave National Park\, 26611 US Hwy 385\, Hot Springs\, SD 57747 \nPark General Information:  605-745-4600 \nCoordinates: N43.55677 W103.47799 (Visitor Center at Wind Cave) \nDirections:   Just 12 miles north of Hot Springs on Highway 385.  Follow signs to the Wind Cave Visitor Center about 2 miles off Hwy 385.  Elk Mountain Campground entrance is ½ mile north of Visitor Center. \nCamp Location:  Elk Mountain Campground\, IBMC will be camping in Loop B. Suggested sites in Loop B are the following numbers:  15\, 16\, 17(Handicapped)\, 18-25. These sites will accommodate tents\, tent trailers and RVs.  Sites can be shared.  Use Recreation.gov website to make your reservation.  Fees: $24 per night ($12 for Vintage). \nCampground:  Usual table\, fire ring\, nearby water and flush toilets. No electric service. Cell phone service is marginal.  Firewood: check with camp ranger. \nServices/Conveniences: Hot Springs\, (14 miles) and Custer\, (20 miles). Showers available at South Dakota Outdoor Shop in Custer or the KOA south of Hot Springs. \nAttractions:  Wind Cave (elevator in service now\, make reservations 3 days in advance) and other caves\, buffalo\, Mt. Rushmore and Crazy Horse monument sculptures\, Sturgis their last weekend\, Mammoth Site\, Plunge Pool\, Scenic train rides and plenty of twisty roads. \nWhat to Bring:  Elevation is over 4\,000 feet with pleasant days\, cool evenings. We have enjoyable places to ride. We can go for a ride in the morning and try to see some elk. This is the largest free roaming herd this side of the Mississippi. We also live near Kinzua Bridge State Park.  Zippo Case Factory and Museum are an interesting place to visit.
