To avoid this\, continue through the light at the intersection of Hwy 5/9/14 for another ½ mile\, then turn left onto North Bayou DR (by the State Farm Office). Go north for ½ mile to campground. If coming from the east\, turn right onto N Bayou DR before you get to the main junction of 5/9/14. \nConveniences: Very nice RV park. Bathrooms are very clean. We can also use a patio\non each end of this building\, overlooking the valley. There’s gas\, groceries\, ice cream\, music\, flea market shops and much more – all in Mountain View . \nThese are very nice people to work with. Shawna is the one you will need to talk to about a\nreservation. Tell her you are with the IBMC. She has assured us that if you reserve a site\, that is the site you will get. A map is on their website. \nCook Off Rules: Only enter what you cook on site. That’s the purpose of the cook-off. There is a Main\nDish and a Dessert Dish category. You don’t have to dutch oven cook\, but that’s what makes this fun.\nIf you don’t cook\, just bring a dish to share.

SUMMARY:Datil Wells Misguided Ride campout (NM) Jul 17-19\, 2025
DESCRIPTION:Location: Datil Wells Campground Group Site\, Datil\, NM \nThere will be a campout at the Datil Wells campground group site located approximately 1 mile west of beautiful downtown Datil NM. \nDatil consists of the literal fork in the road. There is a gas station/general store/restaurant/motel/whatever at the fork. \nThis campout is being held in conjunction with a gathering known as the Misguided Ride. A collection of misfits if ever there was. This is an equal opportunity campout. A classic “ride what you brung” sort of thing. The real reason we do this is to get out of the heat for a little bit. \nThings to do: Nothing really. Although the Very Large Array is about 15 miles to the east. \nCoordinates: 34.15153° -107.85709° gets you in the general spot. The group site is a bit south of the campground entrance. \nHope to see you!

Camping is first come/first serve and site can be shared. \nVisitor’s Center Phone: (760) 786-3200\nWebsite: https://www.nps.gov/deva/planyourvisit/texas-springs-campground.htm \nAttractions: Death Valley National Park is the lowest\, hottest\, and driest place in North America\, although heat is not a problem in January. Attractions include Badwater Basin (at 282 feet below sea level)\, Dante’s View (which has a spectacular view of the valley)\, Scotty’s Castle\, the Ubehebe Crater\, and the Racetrack (where rocks seem to move for no reason). Gambling is available in Beatty\, NV about 45 miles away\, and there are several ghost towns or abandoned sites\, in and near the park. \nDirections: There are many ways into Death Valley\, and all are paved except the road through Wild Rose Canyon. From the Visitors Center and Furnace Creek Ranch (both on West side of SR190)\, ride about 1/4 mile south. Look on the East side of the road for the turnoff to both Sunset and Texas Springs Campgrounds. Ride past the entrance to Sunset Campground\, and up to Texas Springs (the road ends 1/2 mile up) Camp in any site\, but we try to go as far up the campground as possible\, near the restrooms at the top of the campground\, spots 68-76. \nMap: https://goo.gl/maps/wF4WgdfLB58HjAE37. \nGPS Info. (Latitude\, Longitude): 36.4566\, -116.8410 \nElevation and Weather Notes: Furnace Creek is below sea level\, and the campground is only a bit higher. Although Death Valley is very dry\, the park can get occasional rainstorms. Daytime temperatures can range from 40 to 75 degrees\, depending on where you go sightseeing. Nights are cold and can drop down to freezing\, so plan accordingly. \nWhat to Bring: Bring a warm sleeping bag or blankets. There is drinking water in the campground\, otherwise\, bring whatever you need for a great weekend getaway. We’ll have firewood for a campfire at our site and will have a hotdogs and chili gathering on Friday evening. Bring a side dish if you’d like. \nConveniences/Services: The campground has flush toilets\, cold running water\, and decent cell service\, but there are areas in the park that are dead zones. Showers are available at Furnace Creek Ranch\, and almost everything is within 1/2 mile\, including fuel and dining.
