SUMMARY:Ward Mountain Campout
DESCRIPTION:Heading to the high country (7\,400 feet) for a weekend getaway in the mountains outside of Ely\, NV.  Over the weekend\, we’ll be heading into Ely to check out the town\, ride the trains\, and probably take a ride to Great Basin National Park.  The road to Wheeler Peak in the park is simply amazing.  Wheeler peak sits at 13\,065 feet making it the second-highest peak in Nevada\, just behind Boundary Peak (which was not officially listed in Nevada by the USGS until 1980).\n\nWe have reservations in Spot 30\, if you’d like to try to get close.  This is a recon mission to scope out the area for future group campouts.  The campsite is around 1/2 mile off the paved road\, but the gravel road look well maintained from pictures. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nFrom Ely\, travel west on US-6 for 10 miles. Turn left just before Murray Summit\, at the sign for the recreation area.  From Las Vegas\, travel north on Highway 93 for about 86 miles\, to the junction with State Route 318.  Make sure to fill up fuel in Ash Springs.  Follow State Route 318 north for 124 miles to US-6 and head east towards Ely.  Turn right at the sign for the recreation area.\n\n\n\n\nLatitude\n39° 12′ 44.8301″ N \n\n\nLongitude\n114° 58′ 3.3200″ W \n\n\n\n\n\n\nTo make reservations\, go to https://www.recreation.gov/camping/campgrounds/234207

SUMMARY:2022 IBMC International Campout - Jacob Lake Recreation Area\, Kaibab National Forest\, AZ
DESCRIPTION:If you’ve ever thought about visiting the Grand Canyon\, this is your chance. \nDoc’s phone number (702) 493-3028 \nLocation:  Jacob Lake Group Campground\, Loop A and B\, which will be limited to tents and tent campers.  Loop A will be available on June 6th after 12:00 noon for early birds.  Check in with the Host in Loop A when you arrive; they will be in the only RV in the group campsite.  Checkout Friday 6/10/22. \nCost:  Cost will be split evenly between all campers/tents who arrive and camp in the Group Campground\, and will probably be around $30 per unit. \nIf traveling in RVs or for those who prefer to “camp” in four walls: \n\nIndividual sites are available at Jacob Lake Campground.\nFull RV hookups and cabins are available at Kaibab Camper Village. Prices for RVs range from $45-$50.  Cabins begin around $100.\nRooms and cabins are also available at Jacob Lake Inn.\nThere are also plenty of Forest Service roads in the area where you can boondock for free.\n\nNOTE:  It’s best to make reservations early\, even if you’re not sure you’re coming.  You can always cancel your reservations later.  The next closest RV parks or hotels are 35-40 miles away in Fredonia\, AZ or Kanab\, UT. \nWhat to Bring:  There will be a potluck dinner on Thursday evening\, so bring your favorite dish to share.  The hosts will bring wood for a group fire pit; individual fires are not allowed.  There is drinking water in the campground\, otherwise\, bring whatever you need for a great getaway. \nConveniences/Services:  Jacob Lake Inn\, has a small restaurant gift shop\, limited groceries\, and a gas station.  The nearest grocery store and full facilities are 35 to 40 miles away in Fredonia\, AZ and Kanab\, UT.  Pay showers are available nearby at the Kaibab Camper Village\, approximately ½ mile away. \nDirections from I-15:  Take Exit 16 in Utah (UT-9).  Follow 12 miles east to UT-59 in Hurricane.  Turn right and follow UT-59S/AZ-389E for 52 miles to Fredonia.  Turn right and follow US-89A south/east for 30 miles to Jacob Lake.  Turn right on AZ-67 and then immediately left into the group campground.  NOTE:  The group campground in not the campground across US-89A from Jacob Lake Inn. \nGPS Info.  (Latitude\, Longitude):  36.7\, -112.20972 (36°42’0″N\, 112°12’35″W) \n\n\n\nGoogle Map from Denver\, CO \n(and points Northeast) \nhttps://goo.gl/maps/UjiuSSojjHWiN5vd8 \n  \nGoogle Map from Salt Lake City\, UT \n(and points Northwest): \nhttps://goo.gl/maps/cMudUy9gB2DdhfWb6\nGoogle Map from Las Vegas\, NV \n(and points Southwest): \nhttps://goo.gl/maps/e2hNpri8Bzz \n  \nGoogle Map from Albuquerque\, NM \n(and points Southeast):  https://goo.gl/maps/dXWbF4YMEpDV8tLm9\n\n\n\nElevation and Weather Notes:  Jacob Lake sits at 7921 feet\, so expect cool nights.  Average June temperatures 78°/49° (records 98°/18°).  Although June has the lowest average monthly precipitation\, it is also the beginning of the Monsoon season\, which may flare up some afternoon showers. \nAttractions:  Jacob’s Lake is within easy access to many places of interest: \n\nThe Grand Canyon North Rim is 44 miles from Jacob Lake\, and has the most spectacular views of the Grand Canyon due to its higher elevation and remoteness. There are far fewer people and nearly no tour busses.  Viewing sunrise or sunset is a common thing for people to do\, but the ride to from Jacob Lake to Point Imperial and Cape Royal alone is worth the trip.  For a map\, go to https://goo.gl/maps/8VC92SzjzMtfxVu1A.\nThe Vermilion Cliffs National Monument is only 20 miles from Jacob Lake. The Viewing Area of the California Condor Release Area is only three miles on a gravel road from US-89A and is accessible by motorcycle\, however\, a dual-sport or adventure bike is highly recommended.  Bring binoculars to view these magnificent birds.  For a map from Jacob Lake\, go to https://goo.gl/maps/m4Wa3yJbXxtT5NVEA\nKanab\, UT is 37 miles from Jacob Lake\, and offers a number of sightseeing opportunities. For a map\, go to https://goo.gl/maps/zyCHBbBqqLktdipQ7\nThe historic Navajo Bridge is 41 miles from Jacob Lake and Lee’s Ferry is only six miles from there. The Navajo Bridge offer views of the Colorado River from above\, while Lee’s Ferry offers you a chance to take a dip in the cool waters or the Colorado River.  For a map\, go to https://goo.gl/maps/9ef5pVn51teLWLS26\nPipe Spring National Monument is 44 miles from Jacob Lake. Learn a bit of history of the Kaibab Band of Paiutes\, and their interaction with the Navajo Indians\, and early Mormon Settlers.  For a map\, go to\, https://goo.gl/maps/xxFGCkJ2UJHUDBxE9\nZion National Park is 79 miles from Jacob Lake and Bryce Canyon National Park is a bit further at 113 miles. Both offer some of the most magnificent rock formations in the country.  On the way\, stop at Moqui Cave\, just outside of Kanab\, for a unique and quirky cave experience.\nLake Powell and the Glen Canyon Dam is 82 miles from Jacob Lake. Although the water level is low in Lake\, tours of the dam are still available.  Five miles from the dam is Horseshoe Bend\, which offers a stunning view of a 270º horseshoe-shaped bend in Glen Canyon.  However\, there is a small fee for parking which is not covered by a National Park pass.  For a map from Jacob Lake\, go to https://goo.gl/maps/hNmyMb3Y9XDpDpEn6\nFor a nice day ride\, the US-89/89A loop passes several of the places to see. For a map\, go to\, https://goo.gl/maps/XkQ21bjxmq4MzmX28\nThere are also miles upon miles of Forest Service roads in the Kaibab National Forest\, that crisscross the Kaibab Plateau\, with views of the Grand Canyon not normally seen by tourists\, and the Grand Staircase-Escalante in the distance.  However\, these are gravel road requiring a dual-sport or adventure bike\, and some roads require 4WD vehicles.
